This nice two page pictorial spread about the work of figure maker Frank Marshall is in the August, 1938 issue of Popular Mechanics. One quote from the text: "For twenty years he has been carving blockheads and marionettes for the theatrical trade." Did he really start in 1918? Born in 1900, I guess he could have if he started as a teen working with the Macks. Frank died in 1969 which meant he has a 58 year career as figure maker. Pretty amazing!

I think Frank Marshall did start figure making at age 18. You can confirm that information with Bob Isaacson but that sounds about right.
